Named after Don Quixote from the novel Don Quixote by Michel de Cervantes.
I like to think about David Douglas, the Scottish naturalist who named many trees and plants and whatnot, looking up at the tall trees we know of as Ponderosa Pine, and saying out loud to himself, “huh, I wonder what we should name that one.”
